about
The gods have not faded away, or been reborn. They are not in high school. They have not forgotten who they were. They remember, because they still exist.

Though their followers are fewer and less vocal, once a god, always a god. The important things have not changed with the passage of time, though with the advance of the mortal world, gods have discovered the joys of modernization. Because even a Muse can appreciate an iPod.

Of course the Sumerians are still insular (and a tad stuck up), the Greeks still squabble amongst themselves more than they do with the other pantheons, and the Norse… well, with Loki on the loose and Ragnarok threatened, they do have their hands full.

In every pantheon, just as in any group of individuals, you have those that are warm, friendly and open. And those that never learned to work and play well with others. How will they manage to coexist? How have they done so thus far? And what happens when Anubis meets Hades? Or Thor challenges Nergal?

Come help us answer those questions and tell those stories.

Deities Dot Com is a roleplay community, based on mythological deities in the modern-day world. Our focus is interpersonal relationships and growth for our characters, so we are seeking quality writers with original and interesting ideas. We want our characters to learn and evolve, we love players that post and reply frequently, who take pride in their writing abilities. It's a challenging community, but the results are a top-notch RP with fantastic, open, friendly players.

Currently, we allow Greek, Egyptian, Celtic, Sumerian, Norse, African, and Japanese deities to roam with us, however that may be expanded in the very near future. But at no point are we going to welcome deities from major monotheistic religions. (i.e. No, you cannot apply for Jesus or Allah. We will spank you if you try.) Gods that have been killed (permanently) such as the Greek Titan Pallas, or the Norse god Baldur, are not a good bet for play. Neither are gods that are limited in their mobility such as Heimdall and Charon, unless you can come up with a reasonable excuse as to why they are allowed away from their post for long periods of time. We want your gods to get out there, meet other gods, make new friends, cause interpantheon incidents!

We are a friendly, player-driven game, and we expect and hope that all who join will take part in contributing to the plot here. We have bi-monthly chats to discuss upcoming plot and character development. They are not mandatory, but we like to foster open communication between our players and in our community. Additionally, these chats can act as something of a think tank, or even a safety net for characters that we like but sometimes need a little jump start. But if you’re not interested in those, we also encourage plot discussion in our ooc community. We want you to have something for your character to do and new ways for them to grow and explore.

And there are a lot of ways to do that in-game. We have some really fantastic writers who have created wonderful characters who live and play in our world. The setting for Deities Dot Com can be anywhere. Most characters have a temple established in their ancestral seat of power, above or below the mortal plane. Zeus resides on Mount Olympus most of the time. If characters prefer living with humanity as opposed to living with fellow gods, they may have nice little homes somewhere on Earth, and posts can reflect this as well. Some gods and goddesses have both! Other places to roleplay include separate areas outlined by the canon of the specific character's pantheon, such as the Greek or Egyptian Underworld. Typically, it is not easy for characters of other pantheons (and even characters of the same pantheon - Olympians, for example, in Greek mythology) to travel to Underworld regions, but there it is! Bottom line: You've got a whole wicked smattering of places to be and places to exploit and places to enjoy, all drawn forth from myth and imagination. Do it! Go forth and God!

The goal here is roleplay, interactive stories created for and by the members. Our style here is based off mythology and prose storytelling, so our posts are typically long and descriptive (and spell-checked!). Membership for this community is limited only to those journals dedicated to a particular god or goddess. However, those players who have personal journals on InsaneJournal could watch this community so that they can keep up without having to go any further than their Friends List! This goes for all of our communities!
